IN PHOTOSHOP
1.
Open up your color/diffuse texture in photoshop
2.
Make a new layer that is Black
3.
Make sure the area where you want glows to be is
filled with your glows. They can be in
color or white.

Save as a 24 bit Targa file.
IN MAYA
1.
Open up Maya
2.
Go to the shader that you want to add a glow to.
3.
Go to the Incandescent
channel and click on the checkerboard icon
a. Attach
the Emissive Targa
4.
Now go to your Special Effects > Glow attribute

Click on its checkerboard icon and add the
Emissive Targa here as well
a. To really manipulate the glow, go to the Targa
file in Maya that is attached to the Glow attribute and twirl
down your Color Balance options.
b.
Make sure to check on Alpha is Luminance

To change the intensity of the glow, lower or
raise the Alpha Gain
d.
If your used a black and white emissive map and
want to now add color to your glows, change the color of the Color Gain channel
The below images are a render without the emissive map, and
a render with the emissive map (and with a spec map)
